The inspiration for Goddess Portraiture emerged in 2008 after Samjhana returned to the UK following six years travelling overseas. She noticed immediately the confusion of gender roles within society, and in particular, the relationship women had with their own femininity and their connection with nature. From career and family life, to climbing the corporate ladder to being an amazing mum, women were overwhelmed and losing touch with who they really were and not appeciating their own unique beauty.
As a result, Samjhana looked for ways to restore this balance of the divine feminine. Her focus led her to creating and exhibiting a collection titled ‘The Goddess Within’ which contributed to Photomonth 09, London photography festival. The feedback from this was overwhelming and further inspired her to seek ways to help women. So she began exploring the possibility of creating goddess photo sessions for women of all ages and backgrounds, interacting and connecting with nature, and more importantly, healing this vital link.
We women today face a multitude of challenges to shrink into the mould of ‘the ideal woman’. It’s easy for us to focus on the things we would like to change rather than loving who we are in the present moment. In my experience, people shine the brightest when they are surrounded by nature, however this is a face we rarely get to see for ourselves. A Goddess session will capture these moments of joy and alow us to experience our true light.
Currently based in London, Samjhana continues to focus on private Goddess Portraiture sessions. In addition, she works with life-coaches and therapists, integrating mini-portrait sessions into retreats and workshops as a supportive tool to complement coaching techniques.
Samjhana is passionate about working with existing women’s groups, charities and organisations to help women who have suffered some form of life-trauma (through illness, abuse or environmental disaster) to regain their confidence.
